Babar Azam's Pakistan Out Of World Cup? Here's Semifinal Qualification Scenario If NZ Win vs SL

Pakistan's World Cup campaign hangs by a thread, with New Zealand needing a paltry 172 runs to overtake the men in green in the semi-final race. In the ongoing World Cup match against Sri Lanka, the Black Caps limited their opponent to 171 runs thanks to the incredible performance of the bowlers. As a result, they are close to an easy win in the all-important clash in Bengaluru.

If New Zealand lose the ongoing match against Sri Lanka, Pakistan will only need a win to qualify for the semi-finals. However, if the Black Caps chase down the total and win today, Pakistan will almost be out of the World Cup.

Here are Pakistan's semifinal qualification scenario if NZ win vs SL

If New Zealand chase the target inside 35 Overs, Pakistan will have to chase 120 in just six overs or a whopping 200-run total in seven overs to get their NRR higher than the Kiwis.

On the other hand, if New Zealand chase the target inside 25 overs, Pakistan must record a 335-run victory over England to avoid a league-stage elimination.

So, even if Pakistan and Afghanistan win their respective last games, it's impossible for them to get a better Net Run Rate than New Zealand.

Therefore, in all probability, India will face New Zealand in the first semifinal at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. On the other hand, South Africa and Australia will lock horns with each other in the second semifinal in Kolkata.

P.S.- It was a developing story when NZ vs SL game was in progress. As per the latest scenario, Pakistan need to defeat England by 287 runs or chase a 300-run target inside six overs to overtake New Zealand's NRR. In other words, Pakistan's World Cup campaign is over as these criteria are impossible to fulfil.
